MG: We Make Models, Professional

Section Manager: MG Academy Team, Operation: Training and Development, First Launched: July 2011, MG Fact: Despite MG's established record for Model and Photographer development, it was only in 2011 that MG decided to offer these services to the public.

MG has always been known for providing industry level services to both aspiring and established models and this has gained a strong and positive reputation for MG as both an outstanding image capture service and as a first rate model training provider.

In the past the only way to get access to these services was to apply to join MG.

However only 8% of all applications ever made it to a test shoot and only half of those would be signed, this meant that 96% of ALL applicants would be turned away and while this was great for quality assurance on our roster it meant that those who really wanted our help couldn't get it.

Now this will change.

For the first time ever MG are offering a range of training and development courses exclusively for aspiring models wanting to learn the essential and professional skills needed to survive in one of the worlds most competitive industries.

We have taken our time and completed extensive market research (throughout 2010) to create our 3 training and development courses that provide introductory, intensive and in-depth access into the mindset of professional models, photographers, creative directors & stylists as well as actual clients in order to give trainees access to a more rounded perspective of the industry rather then limiting them to a view of the industry from just the MODELS perspective.

Courses include consultations to identify your strengths and weaknesses, MG specialty training in Poise, Pose and Promotion to bring out the best in your modelling and how to translate this to your imagery, online presence and in person as well as professional training in make up, hair and styling so you know how to arrive for castings, shoots and promotional events.

All of this is supported by the amazing imagery captured by our MG PRO-TOGRAPHY Team who are on hand to provide each trainee with direction and support to guarantee great imagery that taps into the models newly developed skills and understanding of the needs and expectations on both sides of the lens.

Model Behaviour: Level One (1 day introductory course)

(Individual Training Price £120)

(Group training Price £85 Per Person)

Our Level One course may be the shortest (coming in at 4 hours long) but in no way have we skipped on the quality within. The course has been designed to have the most amount of impact in the time available by providing models with access to a professional assessment of their current condition followed by an individual discussion on how best to manage the pros and cons of modelling.

This is followed by a team challenge with the other models which helps to improve confidence and goal orientated working while displaying your ability to work with others.

A guide to effective and appropriate make up is then provided with a leading stylist who will help to find not only your natural look, but an alternative look that will also impress others.

Then on to the final part of the day, the MG PRO-TOGRAPHY photo shoot! Models will be shot and directed by the photographers in a range of interesting imagery throughout several changes and taught how to provide themselves with the perfect poses and lighting to bring out the very best in the models work.

Models will receive a copy of all the images captured on that day on a CD/DVD as well as 5 print quality finals, PRO Selected by the MG PRO-TOGRAPHY team included on the disc (in a separate folder) with a 90 day license to print the images professionally for personal and portfolio use and this is delivered by courier within 28 days.

Model Definition: Level Two (1 day intensive course)

Our Level Two course combines the best elements of our one day course with an extended training that focuses on elements of the 3 P’s (Pose, Poise and Presentation) which is essential for all areas of modelling but in particular those models looking to enter fashion markets or the catwalk.

Models will also benefit from a professional assessment of their current condition as well as gain insight into techniques that can improve the models chances of impressing at both castings and photo shoots.

A detailed training session on effective new catwalk techniques as displayed in both London and Paris Fashion Week is complemented with training shots being taken by the MG PRO-TOGRAPHY team who will be able to show you how your walk can be improved and capture those moments where you are on point!

This is supported by a team makeover that will highlight both "dress up" and "dress down" make-ups that help to highlight the effective use of products in both casting and photo shoot scenarios.

Models are then taken on a white background training shoot to get them ready for their MG PRO-TOGRAPHY location shoot! The training shoot will include effective training on posing, lighting and clothing selection as well sharing photographer secrets to ensure capture of the best image in camera which will guarantee that you get your images back quicker and encourage any photographer to use you again!

This is then followed by an on location PRO Shoot which will function as the final exam for the model and will provide you with the requirements of an actual PRO Shoot including quick changes and environmental interaction while dealing with both the needs of the shot as well as the needs of the photographer/client to create a masterpiece for your portfolio and their campaign.

Models will receive a copy of all the images captured throughout the Level Two course provided on a CD/DVD as well as 7 print quality finals PRO Selected by the MG PRO-TOGRAPHY team included on the disc (in a separate folder) with a 365 day license to print the images professionally for personal and portfolio use and this is delivered by courier within 14 days.

Model Professional: Level Three (2 day in-depth training course)

The 2 day course is designed to take you through an intense training of an MG Model starting with an in-depth analysis of each model, looking at height, weight, body shape, teeth, hair and skin condition to identify areas that need improvement and then a detailed development plan will be created and provided to the model for achievement.

We then move on to how we can work around any issues identified within the assessment with the use of industry secrets such as intelligent posing, breathing techniques, skincare and lighting tricks and "non edit tips" that help to guarantee what’s in the camera is as impressive as what comes from a typical digital edit WITHOUT the use of software.

This will be complimented by a stage one hair and make up training that will prepare the models for the professional expectations of the look required for casting calls and interviews with agencies.

The models are then taken on a training shoot that will include effective training on posing and clothing selection as well as sharing photographer secrets to provide the best image in camera ensuring that you get your images back quicker and encourage any photographer to use you again and/or recommend you to others!

Then comes the MG PRO-TOGRAPHY ALPHA test shoot! This is a fast and intense MG style shoot that will test the models abilities learnt over the 2 days and provide them with all the data they need to know about what works for them and what does not. Photographers will take a “Warts and All” approach to the shoot to help the models identify how to get around the problems inherent with studio lighting, amateur posing and angles of the body.

Day 2 provides further and final training to give each model instruction on how to create their "model persona" which is a guide on how they will promote themselves using tools like Facebook, MySpace, ModelMayhem and StarNow etc to maximise their exposure in the right way.

Models will also have a clothing critique to identify what would work better on them from their own wardrobe as well as suggestions from MG’s Creative Team and Virtual Wardrobe Selection.

This is then followed up by an intense make up and beauty school training from Lead Creative Stylist, Aysha Mamodesen whose extensive education and professional experience in make-up, hair and beauty speaks for itself.

An intense session of focused training in the “perfect posture” where models will be taught how to pose and how to promote certain aspects of their bodies including the face, chest, waist and buttocks to fill or decrease body shape within clothing and furthering industry tips covered by many real life shows such as "America's Next Top Model", "Britain and Irelands Next Top Model" and "How to look good naked".

Then the PRO Shoot will function as the final exam for the model and will provide them with the requirements of an actual PRO Shoot including quick changes and environmental interaction while dealing with both the needs of the shot as well as the needs of the photographer/client to create a masterpiece for your portfolio and for the assignment/brief.

Taken at a weather dependant location, models will be instructed on how to deal with the pressure of shooting in public as well as given the chance to build parts of the shoot themselves as they work through the production list with 1 of the 5 photographers available on the day to tailor their shots to their style, individually.

Models will receive a copy of all the images captured throughout the Level Three course provided on a DVD as well as 10 print quality finals PRO Selected by the MG PRO-TOGRAPHY team included on the disc (in a separate folder) with a 365 day license to print the images professionally for personal and portfolio use and this is delivered by courier within 7 days.
